ARTIST BIO

Aloha! Kamy Arakawa was born and raised in Honolulu, on the island of Oahu. She graduated from Chapman University in the Spring of 2019 with a Bachelor of Science Degree from the Argyros School of Business & Economics. Kamy focused her studies in Marketing within Business Administration, but also had additional interest in Art as a minor. During her time at Chapman, Kamy had a black and white film photograph featured in Chapman’s Departmental Exhibition in Fall 2016 and was awarded the F. Olsen Ceramics Scholarship for the 2017-2018 school year.

Her main focus is creating art through photography, although she still has a passion for ceramics and dance. Through high school and college, photography was a hobby, but Kamy plans on being more proactive about going out with specific purposes to capture and manipulate images. One of her favorite activities to do is take photographs of dogs. She learned her love for this after once having a photoshoot with her dog, Poki, for over two hours.

At Chapman University, Kamy was the President of Pua’ikeana: Chapman’s Hawaii Club. She has had a deep appreciation for the club and has been on the Executive Board since her Sophomore year of college. She has learned many skills within her leadership positions which hope to aid her after college as she continues her career within the Events industry.

Besides Art, Kamy studied the French language. She hopes to formally learn Japanese one day, which is her heritage language. She is deeply engaged in her Japanese culture and is interested in how that culture, as well as her background from Hawaii has shaped her into the person she is today.

A lot of her passion for photography comes from being able to share it with her friends.  She is in love with the idea that through photography, we are able to create a tangible moment of a memory that can be shared with others. She believes that every piece of successful artwork she creates should be one that contains meaning and be a further representation of herself, her personality, and her values.
